What You Put in Your Body Comes Back Out Of It, So Don't Be a Corndog! (Quick Guide to Healthy Eating)
It's true, you are what you eat. When you start to put an emphasis on what you put in your body, you won't only see changes, you will feel them as well. It's January 2019! Let's start the New Year off right with easy guidelines for healthy eating.
1. You know how people say to listen to your gut? Don't. In this case, listening to your gut is the wrong thing to do! When you make a diet change, it is important to stick to it strictly for the first couple of weeks. Be sure that when you make a diet goal, make the change gradual. It is easier and more effective when you start slowly because we all know quitting cold turkey never works!
2. As a golden rule, anything that comes out of the ground is good for you. Vegetables and fruits provide much needed fiber as well as natural, non added sugar.
3. Pay attention to your sugar intake! Sugar is tasty, and according to lots of research, sugar is just as addictive as cocaine. (scary!) Try to avoid fruit juices at all costs. Even though it sounds healthy, companies add in even more sugar than the fruit already has to make it sweeter and taste better. Look at the amount of sugar in all of the foods, drinks and condiments you apply to food. If it is anything above 7 grams of sugar per serving, either stick with one serving or don't consume it at all.
4. Pay attention to portion sizes! America is famously known for the 'Super Size me' mentality when it comes to food. Bigger is always better here at the home of the free! Restaurants serve huge portions to their customers which makes us conditioned to want to eat more. Look at the label and ask yourself: Do I really want to put this in my body?
Be mindful of the food you put in your body and it will thank you.
