OHM. Regardless of what your religion is, everyone can use some buddhist, mind calming techniques in their everyday lives. What's lovely about buddhism is that it doesn't discriminate against other religions, it is simply a philosophy.
Here are the benefits of meditating:
Start your day off right.
Focusing on the flow of the breath and your inner energy before starting your day is like walking forwards instead of backwards. By giving yourself those few minutes of calm and stillness, it refreshes both the mind and the soul, re-invigorating the drive within you. Meditating in the morning is also great if you went to bed mad and woke up still feeling angry. When you focus on letting the negativity melt out of your body, you're allowing yourself to get over what ailed you, and putting yourself in the best position to move forward.
Cleanse your mind of worry and anxiety.
Meditation can help with many things. Yoga instructors utilize it and it promotes a sense of well-being. You can do the same for yourself anywhere in the world. You can be at home, at work, at the park, or in a stressful place. Meditation is the key to overcoming anxiety of the future or worries of the past.
Learn how to stay present.
Many people believe they are staying present when in reality they are doing it all wrong. Staying in the present means to truly not focus on the future or the past while devoting 100% of your energy, emotions and soul to the present. It is so hard in our society today to stay completely present, knowing in the back of our minds the demands of life in our society. Our minds are constantly wandering in and out of memories, into the "what if" section of our brain, and then deeper into our personal depths of regret. By meditating, staying in the present becomes easier with practice, and then eventually, it becomes a habit. The people who have mastered the art of staying in the present happen to be the obnoxiously positive people that you come across and ask yourself "have they ever experienced anything negative in their life?"
HOW TO AWAKEN YOUR BEST SELF:
Start meditating for just a few minutes every morning. Sit on the floor cross-legged and bring forth all the things that are bothering you. Once you have identified them, visualize crumpling them up like a piece of paper, and throwing them out of your mind. Tell yourself that things of the past have come and gone, and there is no way to change them. All you can do now in the present is control your actions and emotions. Accept that you are human and expressing emotions is only normal, and accept that keeping a peaceful, meditative state-of-mind takes practice. Make sure during this time you praise yourself and show self-love. When you are ready to win the day, open your eyes and have the mindset that "I'm going to win!" Believing you are enough already puts you in the winner's circle.
