Are you excited to make a New Years Resolution but nervous about keeping up with it? Here's a few tips on how to stay on track with your goals this coming new year:
1. Make resolutions that build up to a bigger goal in mind. If you are making a resolution to be able to run a marathon by the end of January and you've never run before, it is probably smart to start off with small changes. Making a change to your lifestyle is hard, it requires planning, discipline, and honesty. Be realistic with your resolution. It is okay to have an over arching goal for the end of the year but give yourself time to improve and change at a healthy pace. Make your resolution do-able so that you won't burn out after a couple weeks!
2. If you want to stay on track with a resolution you need to start with self-love. Loving yourself where you are right now is the only way to move forward in a positive direction. Think of it this way, if you achieve your resolution but still aren't happy afterwards, what was the point in achieving it? If you make a resolution to love yourself first, before any achievements or improvements are made, then these steps in the right direction will bring you genuine happiness.
3. Just because someone you know has made a resolution to visit all the National Parks in the U.S. this year, doesn't mean you have to make the same resolution. Stop paying attention to what people are doing around you. Sometimes people make resolutions just because their friends are doing them and this is the main reason why they can never stick with it! Instead, make a resolution to do you! Make changes and decisions for yourself that benefit your mind, body, and soul!
